Joseph Pilates opened his first exercise centre in New York in 1926. Over the next 20 years he worked with the New York Ballet company and with elite sportsmen, correcting malalignment and re-educating the body to prevent recurrence of injury.
Aims of Pilates
Pilates exercises target deep postural muscles of the abdomen and spine to improve overall core stability, core strength, flexibility and Posture. The exercises we provide are safe, effective and functional for the prevention and management of musculoskeletal injuries. Pilates can also benefit body awareness and correct muscle imbalances.
All of our Physiotherapists use Pilates exercises as apart of their clinical management but we also offer a service of one-to-one Pilates Instruction which is provided by Mike Livesey MCSP. Mike has a special interest in Pilates and core stability management. He has gained particular expertise in this area and provides a unique service at the clinic. Your individually tailored programme will endeavour to rapidly improve your understanding of core training and Pilates exercise techniques that regular Pilates classes cannot provide.
